Visit The Renaissance Festival !
Go to Magnolia Texas!

Text and Photos by Charline Wareham

For an unusual and exciting day trip, if you live in the Lone Star State that is, visit Magnolia Texas in the autumn. If you don't live in Texas, it is still an unusual and exciting event and worth more than just a day's sojourn. I haven't been in several years, so I treated myself to this pleasure. I live in Texas, so I went for just a day's visit. As I wandered around the festival grounds, I was greeted in ye old English by lords, ladies, beggars, fairies and goblins alike.

I checked the schedule and the map to make sure that I was at the right place at the right time to watch knights jousting astride their steeds with 15ft lances. The falls from the horses cannot be fantasy. It is a real fall, no matter how prepared the noble knights are.

There were entertaining plays and music everywhere. I think that the belly dancers were my favorite - Gypsies after my own heart.

Be sure to take plenty of ye old English charge cards for the wonderful one-of-a-kind gifts that you will be able to find there. Christmas always comes around sooner than we expect. I suggest doing some early shopping in this festive atmosphere; turn your shopping into an event.

Go back in time for a day. See you there.  -VCW
